Does she or doesn't she?

I need to back up and address a question I have received from a few friends. When I mentioned the doctor's seeing Harper as having 'signs' of Down's Syndrome, we thought there may be a chance the blood work had the potential to come back negative. After all, it was just a few signs, right? Well, not exactly. What we could not see through our untrained eyes and through the eyes of two parents who fell in love with her at first sight, the doctors and nurses noticed immedtiately as being apparent. The blood work sent off for chromosomal screening is just a medical confirmation of DS. So, with that information, we were no less in love with our beautiful daughter and know we have a whole new world to become educated about but are ready and excited to begin. I have not allowed myself to begin any research through the 'University of Google' as we are concentrating on her current medical needs and overcoming those hurdles first. I have already been told by her attending pediatrician, once we have her eating through a bottle and past all of the other issues, it will be like taking home any other newborn baby. What a relief that was as I have been there and done that twice before and know what that entails. He also went on to say since she doesn't have any heart defects or internal organ damage, praise the Lord, she will be able to see a regular pediatrician for all of her medical needs. So, we are focused on the current medical needs she has to get her well enough to bring home and then we will begin the next phase of our education process on what we need to equipt ourselves with to give this precious angel the best of what life has to offer.

Jacob just called her nurse to check on her progress through the night. She had shown signs of jaundice yesterday and her bilirubin tested high so she will be under the blue lights today. We also know from our other two, this can cause a lack of interest in eating and are optimistic once she gets these levels regulated, she may perk up with the bottle feeding as well. She only ate 5ml last night which isn't much at all. I must say how quickly we have found ourselves attached to her nurses and one in particular. They are truly some of the most amazing people doing the most amazing work. Please keep them in your prayers as well, along with the doctors, as they are such a vital part of Harper's success.
