A Busy Day for Harper Faye

It was another busy day for Miss Harper Faye! She has continued to make progress with her bilirubin but just as precautionary, the doctor wanted to keep her under the lights through the day and will check her levels again this morning. They just want them low enough to hopefully avoid a relapse. Her platelets were low as well but not low enough to cause concern. The doctor himself called us yesterday morning as he had received her chromosomal screening results confirming her DS or trisomy 21. This was just a medical confirmation of what we already knew and doesn't provide us with any additional information. She also saw a physical therapist to help her with the bottle feedings. We didn't know what tricks they had up their sleeve but she took 10ml (5ml being her previous record) during her 11:00 am feeding. The 2:00 pm feeding was done all through the tube to not only keep her under the lights but if we push her too much it may result in a regression somewhere else. We went back for her 5:00 pm feeding and I was able to try the bottle again. She took 17 ml that time. They only recorded 15 ml but I was thrilled. Her 8:00 pm feeding was done by the nurse through the bottle and she took a whopping 25 ml! A full feeding for her is 40 ml so we are making great progress. I am so proud of her.

Her Mimi finally decided she wouldn't be detered by the beeps, bells and whistles she may set off and held her for the first time before heading back to Chattanooga today. Mimi also went and bought Harper's first outfit and booties. A girl always has to be well dressed.

Harper was moved to yet another stepdown unit which actually has a bed for us to stay with her. Jacob took the first shift and was able to help with her 11:00 pm feeding. I am anxiously awaiting a full report on how she did last night! How comforting it is to know Daddy will be filling us in rather than us making a phone call to the nurse to tell us all that happened through the night.
